Behind the Scenes with Rathnam

Joshua attends La Sierra Academy in Riverside, CA. His volleyball roots trace back to backyard rallies with his older sister Julia starting at age 9. From there, he fell in love with the game and has never looked back. Five years later, he is competing with some of the best talent in all of the country, in the heart of Orange County, CA.

But Joshua is no stranger to a challenge. At age 11, Joshua competed in his first tournament in the state-of-the-art AIM Sportsplex in Seal Beach, CA. From there, he began playing three levels up with a 14-year-old squad. Joshua learned that no matter what level you play at, your mindset will set you apart from the rest of your competition.

In Josh’s three years of experience, he learned that volleyball is much more than just a game, it’s a family.

“No matter who you’re playing with or against, we all have the same goals,” says Rathman.

This experience has taught Joshua to be a friendly face in the volleyball community and respect the game at all levels.
